PATCHWORK SEATING
A CUSTOM FLAT-PACK FURNITURE SET
Inspired by my thesis project, Activate RVA’s concept of patchwork, I designed and constructed a set of plywood flat pack stools that, when hung on the wall, mimic a quilt pattern grid, and when put together, create visually dynamic seating. The set consists of 48 pieces that are the exact same shape which, with the help of their notches, holes, and pegs, can be put together to make 12 stools. Although each piece shares the same form, they can all be decorated differently, so that when they’re combined to be seating or hung on the wall to be stored, their users can create practically infinite unique combinations. The result is beautiful wall art and furniture that engages its users and shifts as frequently as the programs hosted in Activate RVA.
